Commonwealth Games singles gold medallist Ahmed Siti Zalina will be the Malaysian women's representative for the Asian Pacific Games singles. It will be the perfect opportunity for her to attempt to extend her hold over Australian player and Games silver medalist Karen Murphy. Siti defeated Murphy in the final of the Commonwealth Games at Manchester last year. The Malaysian players will find it a different proposition on the slick running greens at Pine Rivers. The Commonwealth Games were played on rain-soaked greens for the duration of the competition. Bowls was only introduced to Malaysia nine years ago - there are only 1200 active players in the country - and Siti Zalina has only been involved for seven of them. She fully expected to win the gold medal last year and said after winning the final: "I told myself before going to sleep last night that I would win it and now I feel great." Queensland Bowler |
