The Hong Kong team head for the Asia Pacific Championships in good form and aiming to bring back medals from Australia. The team has only one change from the last event in 2001, with
Jimmy Chiu replacing Anthony Carstairs, who has left Hong Kong to take up residency in Germany.
Noel Kennedy will be keen to win back-to-back singles gold medals and will be going
all out to add a pairs gold with club mate and national pairs winning partner
Adam Poynton. The triples team of Jimmy Chiu, James Cheng and
Danny Ho brings a wealth of talent and experience and when the current Bowler of the Year
(Adam) is added in the fours will take on the Australians in the first game, hoping to get off to a winning start.
The ladies have a settled look about their team with experience in international events from all players.
Danna Chiu will take the singles berth, and will aim to go one better than Moama in the pairs by taking the gold, with
Elizabeth Li. The triples combination of Angela Chau, Hannah Ha and
Stephanie Chung have been playing well all year and when Elizabeth is added will be a formidable rink with a wide range of shots available.
The management team of Claudius Lam and Ken Pullen are both new to the positions but have worked hard at getting the team together weekly, for bowls practice, gym work and team meetings. The only
difficulty that Ken may have will be controlling Adam and Noel when the English rugby team defeat the Wallabies in the final of the Rugby World Cup on the Saturday
preceding the event. A group of the spectators will be joining the team, made up of mainly family members, with the HK Association management also in attendance.
